” This sale is fantastic news for the .co.uk domain industry “
The company MoneySupermarket.com has acquired what would be classed as some of the best financial and insurance .co.uk domain names in the industry for £4.6 Million pounds.
The £4.6m was only a down payment, as depending on the performance / revenue the domains generate, the price can rise to £9 Million as part of the deal that was agreed.
Although Money Supermarket are a well known comparison website for financial services and other industry sectors here in the UK, the directors of the business clearly understand the importance of owning premium domain names that are highly brandable, memorable, and will intern bring more customers to their business via targeted traffic. It’s great to see companies are now waking up and realizing how powerful owning generic domains can be, as not only will they increase business’s productivity, they will also decrease marketing spend because of how keyword domains can position themselves within the search engines once SEO techniques have been applied.
Moneysupermarket said ” the acquisition would provide “a platform for the group to broaden its brand offering to a wider range of customer segments in the money and insurance (divisions)”.
Included in the sale:
- Mortgages.co.uk

- Investments.co.uk

I wonder what big .co.uk domain sales there will be in 2011?
Could it be the 24 carat premium GOLD.CO.UK name ?
Maybe we could be flying high with the sale of BREAKS.COM ?
or why not bring further life to the domain industry with PREGNANCY.CO.UK ?
